More of the Same in Indy on Saturday, Pole Day, all is quiet, not even the birds are flying. After my morning ritual of reading the paper I flipped on the TV to search for any break in this drip-by-drip misery. Maybe by the early part of next week, the forecasters are saying.

Study the Oldtimers around the Speedway. They are plentiful, most times. But Saturday their hospitality room was closed up tight, no one around. They seem to know the way the wind is going to blow.

I don't think it's any secret that I love the Speedway, as do most racing insiders I know. All of us live close by, some closer than others. I, a duffer, can drive a nine iron shot from my front yard and land it on the golf course.

When I was forced to move from the northside thirty years ago I decided that my next house in Indy would be close to the Speedway. That decision has paid off quite well as I can continue my normal life until something is about to happen over there, then hustle over in five minutes. This not only serves me now, it bodes well for the future. I can ride my bike over, lock it to the fence behind a concession stand, and walk to the turn two Vista. I don't even have to cross a street. Normally a dummy, I planned this one pretty well!

So here we sit, on Pole Day, waitin' & watchin'. When somethin' happens we'll let you know. This morning's speculation is that John Andretti is considering an offer. He's capable and no doubt needs a payday. And there's plenty of cars sitting around. He might even get a shot at the pole if Pole Day becomes next Saturday.

It's 3:00 PM and the track is silent, the driveway wet, and tears are dimpling the puddles. I've check the radar and see nothing to the West but more of the same. Perhaps tomorrow. It's a wait and see weekend. Thanks for checking in.

Here's a weatherman's look at the brutal picture for the next few days. Not good!

Shocked

Len--

When did you go to the Oldtimers' suite? I was there at 10:30am and the place was open and packed. One two-time winning chief mechanic had just brought in a huge box of Long's doughnuts.

They always close up when the IMS announces that the track closes for the day...

I haven't had a chance to get over there. Always busy upstairs if the track is open and running. Those Long's donuts will get to you!

Hey there to our Indy reporters...I sure do miss not being there this year, but thanks so much for keeping us posted..

I do remember all the rain delays I was involved in over the last 5 yrs & most of them happened before I had moved to Indy from northwest IN and would have driven down to the track for over 2hrs to sit on Sat and Sun & watch it rain....but it was worth the drive one way or another.

So let's hope some positive things happen soon...we'll be watching along with you....Miss ya
