@Speed Trackside Report from Indy, Sunday, May 11, 2008


It is nearly 8:00 AM here on the West side of Indianapolis. Some diehards may be getting ready to head to the track but the wary ones just roll over and go back to sleep for a while. The weather forecast for this day is 'Hit or Miss Rain Showers'. Right now one is hitting, a big one with roly poly thunder claps echoing overhead.

We have eleven more spots open today but with iffy weather we will just have to see who will go out, even if the track should dry. It is an automatic two hour wait for a dry track after the rain stops. The outlook for a dry track by noon.

So your @Speed reporters are hiding in a dry place and awaiting a better reason to venture out on this Mother's Day.

Second Day of Qualifications Rained Out at Indy 2008


The IMS track maintenance crews gave the moisture a shot with Chevy trucks circling to aerate the water but soon gave it up. With no hope of drier weather in the forecast track officials called it a day shortly after noon.

Qualifying for the final twenty two positions will now take on a historical format next Saturday. All eligible car combinations will vie for positions 12 through 33.

Unfortunately the @Speed Crew, being experienced and wise, stayed by their firesides and listened on the radio and TV.

Practice resumes on Wednesday and the weather predictor is again calling for rain on that day. Guess we'll just have to see.
